Abstract

The U.S. government used the code name Manhattan Project to describe its eoorts to create an atomic bomb during World War II. The project began in 1942 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The leading theoretical physicist on the project was J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was stationed in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
