Abstract

As noted in the Unit 2 review, the 1920s saw a resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Millions of immigrants, many of them from Eastern and Southern Europe, entered the United States during the Second Industrial Revolution hoping to earn money and improve their quality of life. “Native” Americans—white Americans who considered themselves native to the nation because their ancestors had immigrated earlier—feared these new immigrants were not supciently white, Protestant, or wealthy enough to become true “Americans.” The KKK recruited these disillusioned Americans, resulting in a massive resurgence of the organization.
