Abstract

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, skyrocketed to fame when Republican John McCain chose her as his running mate during the 2008 presidential election. McCain and Palin lost the election to Democrat Barack Obama (and Vice President Joe Biden), but the ideas they campaigned on resonated with many American voters. Palin returned to those issues in her 2010 speech, in an eoort to energize the electorate. Her eoorts and those of other Tea Party activists proved successful.
