Abstract

The unit questions for this unit asked you to consider the following: 1. The early twentieth century was a period of signiscant change in America. Before you read the documents, brainstorm and make a basic list of social, political, and economic things that were happening in America between 1900 and 1920. Your list can include actual events as well as attitudes, issues challenging the nation, opportunities, and so on. (For example, the Second Industrial Revolution, America expanding its inuuence internationally, Jim Crow segregation, the draft, etc.) Make a prediction: How do you think these various elements might impact America in the 1920s? 2. The 1920s are often referred to as the “Roaring Twenties.” Why do you think the era earned this nickname? As you read through the documents and learn more in class, make a list of evidence and support. 3. Make a prediction: How do you think the 1920s set the nation up for the Great Depression of the 1930s? What evidence do you have from the readings to support this prediction?
