Abstract

Many American women had long demanded equal treatment, especially focusing on political equality. Some, like Jane Addams in the last unit, promoted women’s voting rights while still outwardly supporting traditional gender roles. Although some women had always challenged stereotyped gender roles, the overt uaunting of traditional Victorian behaviors and values became more visible with the “uappers” of the 1920s.
