Abstract

Historically, Native Americans have suoered extensive abuse at the hands of the American government. Recall how the government under the Dawes Severalty Act essentially required Native Americans to give up their indigenous culture if they wanted to become citizens. In other instances, like Wounded Knee, they were massacred by federal troops.
