Abstract
John Kerry had a long and distinguished public service career. Kerry was a U.S. Senator (Democrat) from Massachusetts from 1985 to 2013. He ran for president in 2004 but lost to George W. Bush. Kerry later served as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama, from 2013 to 2017.
