Abstract

The Archaic Period in Greece (ca. 750–500 BCE) saw the development of many institutions that became both important and powerful in the Classical Period that followed. The greatest of these institutions was the polis, the city-state, and that in turn made possible the resurrection or creation of new cultural practices that enriched the lives of the citizens of the polis.
