Abstract

The Cluniac reform was a reform of the church that began among the Benedictines. Because the church was tightly woven into the fabric of feudal and manorial Europe, there was ample opportunity for secular interference in the church, which contributed to corruptions such as simony (selling of offices) and concubinage.
