Abstract

Manorialism and feudalism were overlapping patterns of economic and military relationships in medieval Europe. Manorialism originated in the villa system of the late Roman Empire. It was a way of organizing the estates (also called “manors” or “fiefs”) of the lords and church leaders, uniting them to the labor-ers (serfs) in a bond of rights and duties.
