Abstract

The term Renaissance, which was not used during the Renaissance itself, refers to the idea of a “rebirth” of the classical culture of Greece and Rome. Although the actual Renaissance was a complex phenomenon that incorporated nonclassical elements, classical culture had a wide influence during the time. The heart of the Renaissance was northern Italy, specifically the cities of Florence, Milan, Venice, and Rome.
