Abstract

The Great Plague, which peaked in Europe from 1348 to 1350, was one of the most devastating pandemics in world history. Spreading along the Silk Road, the plague killed an estimated 30–50 percent of Europe’s population. The plague contributed to outbursts of religious fanaticism, population decline, and peasant uprisings.
