Abstract

The story of Christianity in Britain and Ireland begins with the Roman occupation of Britain and Roman connections (limited and mainly through trade) with Ireland. By the end of the fourth century CE, Christianity was the official religion of the Roman Empire, but its penetration on the fringes of the empire (in places such as Britain) was less extensive than in Europe.
